Workshop Using Origami Crane Recycled Paper Held at the Rest House!

We held a workshop using Origami Crane Recycled Paper at the Rest House! On Wednesday, July 31, we conducted a workshop for tourists using Origami Crane Recycled Paper at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park Rest House!

This free workshop was organized as a pre-experience event for the “Peace Workshop,” designed for tourists to shape their feelings of peace after visiting the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. By doing so, we hope it will serve as a reminder of their trip.

This time, everyone made these “Origami Crane Recycled Paper Flowers.”

Every year, about 10 million origami cranes (approximately 10 tons) are sent to Hiroshima with wishes for peace. We use the recycled paper made from these cranes, known as “Origami Crane Recycled Paper.” The flowers made by the participants were placed in a box also made from Origami Crane Recycled Paper and taken home.

On the day of the event, we had more overseas participants than expected. During the four hours the workshop was open, we had tourists from various countries including those from Northern Europe to Spain, as well as Canada and Australia, with a total of 38 participants.

The age range of participants was broad, from teenagers to those in their 50s, including families, couples, and students.

Some families were traveling throughout Japan over a month, from Hokkaido to Nagano, Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Hiroshima! The vacation culture of overseas countries is enviable! (laughs)

.

When asked what prompted their participation, the results were as follows:

Many were interested in paper crafts and were excited to take home a souvenir.

.

We also prepared stamps with our original “Origami Crane Font” so that participants could create unique designs. These were extremely popular!

Participants enjoyed decorating their flowers and boxes with original designs.

This flower was made by an international student from Kyoto. Very cute!

There were also many who wanted to fold origami cranes, and some participants were taught by the staff.

.

At the end of the workshop, we conducted a survey to gather feedback. Over 70% of participants expressed satisfaction, and we received positive responses regarding the difficulty and duration of the workshop!

Finally, here are some handwritten comments from the participants.

Everyone seemed to enjoy their first experience, and the feedback was very positive. We received a request to offer more options for origami paper, which we will consider for future workshops!

.

The full operation of the workshop started on 8/6.
We are accepting applications at any time♪
